In excerpts of the “19 Kids and Counting” star’s memoir, co-written by her husband and Craig Brolase, the media personality recalls an incident in which she tried to resolve her strained relationship with her parents. The relatives clashed after the mother of three accused the father of verbal abuse.
The snippet, shared by PEOPLE, details an emotional scene involving Jill, Derick, his men and a mediator. Before the intervention began, Jim Bob had recorded a video with a female fan outside the building, a tender moment that did not escape his daughter’s gaze.
Inside the venue, the “Growing Up Duggar” co-author said she was nervous about facing her parents. However, he wants to repair the burnt bridge and return to their peaceful moments. The former reality TV star wrote:
“There have been some very hurtful things that have happened, so we want to work things out. To have a good talk together. We love you all, and I know we all hope to restore family ties soon.”
Jill noted that as soon as the words left her mouth, her father’s body language became defensive. Jim Bob no longer wears the bright smile he had when filming the video with the female fan, and his eyes have turned to a “stone-hewn dryness.”
The patriarch was upset by the letter he received from his daughter and son-in-law, a message Michelle described as “the most disrespectful thing” she had ever read. The “Counting On” star stated in the quote that he never intended to hurt his parents. However, his father did not care about the reasons.

Are you going to apologize for that?” Jim Bob lashed out at his daughter. His anger boiled over when the 32-year-old remained silent, refusing to apologize for voicing his pain.
The 58-year-old man stood up, closing the space between them and he towered over his daughter with “his whole body filled with rage.” Jill described the moment as an “act of aggression,” claiming her eyes filled with tears as she held hands with Derick, consciously pleading with him to restrain himself.
As she stops her husband from taking revenge, Jim Bob scolds her for crying and claims her guilty conscience caused her to cry. Unable to take any more insults, the Tontitown native applauded his father for treating him so badly.
The mother-of-three explained that her father acted like he was a “horrible person” because he had a nose ring and wore pants. Despite growing and changing as Jim Bob’s female fans have come to love, he is shy about being himself.
