Rapper Kanye West recently revealed that he came up with the idea for the 2012 film, “Django Unchained,” saying he had pitched the narrative to the filmmakers when he wanted to shoot the music video for his 2005 hit single, “Gold Digger.”
He also shared that Hollywood icon Jamie Foxx, who starred in “Django Unchained” and also collaborated with West on the song “Gold Digger,” was present when he made his pitch to the director.
Before his recent claims, West had come under fire for making anti-Semitic posts. His actions got him suspended from Twitter and Instagram and prompted some of his sponsors to cut ties with him.

In a recent interview on Piers Morgan’s “Uncensored,” West made an outlandish claim about the 2012 slave-themed film “Django Unchained.”
Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, the film stars Hollywood A-listers Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead role. It became a box office success, and Tarantino went on to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for his screenplay.
As for “Uncensored,” West claims Tarantino was not the film’s inspiration. The rapper said that he pitched the slave-themed narrative to the filmmakers for the music video, but it ended up being used for the film.
He told Morgan, per Metro, “Tarantino could write a movie about slavery where – actually he and Jamie, they got the idea from me because the idea for Django, I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for Gold Digger.” West added, ‘And then Tarantino turned it into a movie.’
“Gold Digger” is West’s 2005 song, which coincidentally also features Foxx. In the meantime, the actor and director have yet to respond to West’s allegations.
Kanye West On Free Speech
In a different part of the interview, West discusses the existence of freedom of speech in context. He shared that DiCaprio, who played a slave in “Django Unchained,” used racial slurs without being labeled a racist.
“But in the movie, he puts context,” the rapper said. “He created the context in which Leonardo DiCaprio was allowed to use [N-word] multiple times, in that context.”
It is unclear if West made the statement to explain the anti-Semitic posts he has made over the past few weeks on Instagram and Twitter. The rapper has been suspended from both platforms for violating their rules and regulations.
In addition to receiving criticism for anti-Semitic posts, West also made headlines for wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt when he made a surprise appearance at YZY’s show in Paris. He was also sued for £221 million over allegations he made about the death of George Floyd.

While the rapper’s actions have strained his relationship with some of his fans, his finances have also taken a toll, as seen by French fashion giant Balenciaga’s decision to cut ties with him.
“Balenciaga no longer has any relationship nor plans for future projects related to this artist,” a company representative said in a press release on Friday each WWD.
Before Friday’s announcement, it was clear that West and Balenciaga were growing apart as photos of the rapper’s runway were taken down from both Vogue and Balenciaga’s websites.
West’s ten-year partnership with Adidas also appears to be in jeopardy after the German sportswear company announced on October 6 that it was “reviewing” its relationship with the Yeezy brand. Amidst his string of controversies, the “Donda” singer has also terminated his contract with Gap Inc.
‘We’re Going Nowhere’

Talk with TMZ, West claimed that the business cancellations and other attacks were made to “score points” before adding that anonymous key individuals were “trying to silence” him.
Despite losing sponsors and facing media criticism over the past few weeks, West is adamant that he won’t stop telling the truth as much as he wants.
He told the publication, “We’re here, baby. We’re not going anywhere.”
The rapper also reflected on losing his deal with Balenciaga, revealing that it didn’t leave a hole in his pocket, contrary to popular opinion.
“I won’t lose money,” he continued. “The day I was removed from the Balenciaga site, that was one of the most liberating days.”
