Kate Middleton’s Uncle Pulls A U-Turn After Calling Meghan Markle The ‘Laughing Girl’

Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, seems to be upset about an interview he gave recently without knowing his niece’s condition.

The businessman, who previously criticized Meghan Markle in the interview, has now issued an apology following Kate’s shocking cancer diagnosis, however, clearly ignoring his jab at the Dutchess of Sussex.

During a recent conversation with The Times in London, Goldsmith slammed Markle, nicknamed “The Laughing Girl,” and her union with Prince Harry, stating:

“Let’s face it, Laughing Girl won’t be around forever, right? I think he is fickle. And I think he’s very bad for Harry and our country.”

The 58-year-old’s anger appears to have stemmed from Markle’s accusations against members of the royal family over racist remarks about the color of her son Archie’s skin before his birth in May 2019.

As far as Goldsmith, the former “Suits” actress took aim at Kate with her speech. The 58-year-old told The Times that:

“The idea that Laughing Girl is saying Kate is racist makes me angry. Kate knows where her family comes from and is proud of them. I’m sorry, but Laughing Girl is not a good person.”

Elsewhere in the interview, which took place just days before Kate shared her cancer diagnosis, Goldsmith suggested that the dynamic between William, Harry, and Kate was once harmonious, but it had been tarnished.

“With everything that happened – and there are other things that happened that are not in the public domain – are they really happy? No. Their children bring them a lot of joy, but no,” he stressed.

In light of her rant and her niece’s public announcement of her health challenges, Goldsmith has issued an apology. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he began:

“This interview and filming was done over a week ago and went to print before I realized the sad news about my niece Kate.”

After expressing his “thoughts and prayers with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time,” he highlighted his disappointment at the time of The Times article.

Goldsmith concluded, “I hope this draws a line on the constant speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William & the kids some time and show some love back.”

Despite his good intentions, social media users were quick to show their displeasure with Goldsmith, with this person typing:

“Stop talking about them. Just stop. Stop using it to try and make yourself relevant. You do not know. This is why you don’t know. You keep your mouth shut.”

A second user X asserted, “Weeks, months or years ago, it makes no difference. You shouldn’t say what you did at any time. I wish you well with your media opportunities, and send wishes for strength and peace for your family .”

At the same time, a netizen said, “I think you should read the room. Most likely no one has seen or will see the article. Perhaps it would be better to remain silent and dignified.”

Fortunately, an Internet personality came to Goldsmith’s defense, writing, “Give the man a break. He only expressed the natural response to avoid potential backlash. He always spoke up in defense of his nephew against Harkles’ toxicity, saying most of the things we’re all thinking.”

Although their relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales has been strained over the years, Harry and his wife did not hesitate to reach out to them after learning about Kate’s cancer.

According to The Blast, the parents of two contacted William and Kate Middleton privately on Friday night.

However, it is still unclear whether the four communicated via video, phone or text. Regardless, sources have indicated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “didn’t know” about Kate’s cancer diagnosis until it became public.

In an earlier statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expressed their wishes for Kate’s health and recovery, hoping she and her family can get through this challenging time “personally and find peace.”

Considering the situation, it was no surprise when The Blast reported that the Welsh and their children will not be present at this year’s Easter Sunday service with the royal family in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Many royal fans had previously hoped to see her at the event, considered a private family event rather than a royal duty. Last year, the couple brought their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – to the service for the first time.
