Kelsea Ballerini Gets Candid About The ‘Disconnection’ She Felt With Morgan Evans

Kelsea Ballerini has spoken candidly about her painful marriage breakdown with Morgan Evans.

Although sparks flew when Evans and Ballerini first met in 2016 on the Australian Country Music Channel Awards (CMA) stage, it soon turned into something else after they embarked on their wedding journey almost two years later.

During the four years of their association, Ballerini dealt with many pains and uncomfortable situations, including spending several nights on their couch. She soon discovered there was nothing left for her in the marriage and filed for divorce last August.

Since splitting with Evans, Ballerini has kept details of the relationship and eventual break from the media. However, that changed when he joined Alexandra Cooper on her cozy couch and spilled the tea that many fans wanted to hear.

The conversation began with Cooper asking the “half from my hometown” singer if she could pinpoint the moment she knew her marriage wasn’t going to last, prompting a response that she made the connection “a long time ago.” Ballerini revealed:

“There is a separation, there is [sic] years of couples therapy. there is [sic] many nights sleeping on the sofa. It’s just a relationship that takes a long time.”

The Billboard Women in Music winner later recalled sleeping “on the couch the night before the CMAs” going to rehearsals at the arena where she tried to text her then-husband. Instead of continuing the conversation, Evans had told him, “I’ll see you at [sic] the carpet.”

It’s worth noting that while Ballerini didn’t reveal which CMA she was referring to, her recollection of the event ties into the story she covered in her latest song, “Blindsided.” In the song, the 29-year-old references a “big fight” right before an unnamed “big show” in 2019.

The “Hell’s Kitchen” star further explained to the “Call Her Daddy” host that sleeping on the couch was sparked by a “disconnected feeling” between her and Evans. In fact, it is common for ex-lovers to spend a long time without seeing each other.

In her words, there was “a lack of effort to see each other,” which led to feelings of resentment on her part, and whenever they saw each other, Ballerini “felt like I was carrying that burden, and I was tired.” Ultimately, exhaustion left him feeling “exhausted” and “misunderstood.”

Despite being convinced that leaving the marriage was the right decision, the Black River signee still has lonely moments, especially during the holidays. The Blast notes that she hinted at that feeling last Christmas when she shared a photo of herself in a green sweater and minimal makeup.

“Hi. Sending you hugs. The holidays can be a wonderful time and also create a big, hard feeling,” Ballerini wrote across the image. He also advised his 3.2 million followers to “protect that precious heart” and wished him a “happy Christmas week.?”

This season hit harder for the “Miss Me More” singer, who would have celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary with the 37-year-old had they stayed together.

Six months after her marriage to Ballerini collapsed, The Blast observed that Evans has not been shy about dealing with her emotions regarding the unfortunate event. During an interview with Bobby Bones, the Australian revealed his realization that his only power was over his feelings and actions.

The “Country Outta My Girl” hitmaker later shared her gratitude to those around her who constantly remind her of that power while keeping her “grounded that way.”

Aside from having a supportive clan, the country singer’s healing process was aided by her breakup song, “Over For You,” which was a medium to express her “level of vulnerability” at the time.

“Having been through a situation like that, seeing that it helped other people through a situation like that, yeah, it’s a really big deal,” Evans said, referring to the song’s impact on his fans.

The “Love Is Real” singer also recalled the first time she performed the heartbreaking song, claiming, “it felt good to do that and just be honest and not try to cover things up.”
