Madison Beer Opens Up About Her Past Struggles With Suicidal Thoughts And Sexual Abuse

The songwriter opened up about some of the most challenging moments of her life during a recent appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. She shared her struggles with the public disclosure of her nude photos and videos and her attempted suicide.

When the “Melodi” singer was just 15 years old, she had to deal with a nude video of herself that was leaked online, spreading like wildfire. The “Showed Me (How I Fell In Love With You)” singer said, “It remains so vivid to the point where I still, to this day, if I get a call in the middle of the night, I’m 15 years old again,” while added, “And I was in my room, and I found out that this video was out there and it was very scary.”

“I didn’t think the person I sent this to would think of doing something like that because this is someone I’ve known all my life. I was wrong.”

The “Todrick” star shared that he was sexually abused when he was six or seven years old. Although she refused to reveal the identity of her abuser and the nature of their relationship, the rest of the events, coupled with her privacy being invaded, drove her to a dark place.

By 2019, the burden of bearing all those traumatic events caused him to start harming himself and having suicidal thoughts. He said, “I started self-harming again, which I’ve been clean for a while,” before revealing that he tried to kill himself twice but thankfully didn’t succeed.

Beer revealed that he was only 16 years old during his first attempt, which he recalls in his upcoming memoir, “The Half of It.” In a quote obtained by PEOPLE from his new memoir, he tells how he stood on his balcony and considered jumping. The actor shared:

“I didn’t think I would jump. It’s more about knowing that I can — that I have a way out if it gets too much. Still, I lingered there, chilling with the fact that I wasn’t so afraid of being in high places.”

He added that his younger brother found him, yelling for their parents, and when he got back up, he was confused as to why they were so surprised considering it was something he was used to.

The “Hollywood Medium With Tyler Henry” guest star has worked with and been signed to several record labels throughout her career, so it’s unclear what title she’s shadowing. While his single, “Reckless,” was a huge hit with over 11 million views on YouTube, The Blast shared that he feels they could have done more to propel his career to new heights. Beer expressed his frustration in a now-deleted tweet that read, “I love me so much.” A sympathetic fan replied, “Believe me, honey we are too.”

The “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” guest judge later elaborated on the issue: “They did NOTHING to support me or promote me or ANYTHING.” He also revealed that he had to self-finance most of the “Reckless” music video because they didn’t support his vision, adding to his frustration.
