Matthew Lawrence has revealed that he was fired from an agency for refusing to undress for a Hollywood showrunner. The actor shared that the person, who was a “very prominent” director, promised him a Marvel role if he accepted it.
Lawrence also noted that male actors don’t get the same attention as their female counterparts when they open up about sexual harassment in the film industry. Last year, he revealed that he avoided drugs because of advice from the late actor Robin Williams.

Speaking on his podcast, “Brotherly Love,” Lawrence opened up about his torturous time in the film industry, per Insider.
The actor shared that he was once sexually harassed by a “very prominent” director who assured him that he would get a role at Marvel if he complied with his pornographic demands.
Narrating the incident, Lawrence claimed her agency sent her to the show’s launch hotel room to meet him.
And when he got there, the director “appeared in his cape, asked me to take off my clothes, said he had to take a Polaroid of me, and said if I did X, Y, and Z, I would be the next Marvel character.”
However, Lawrence said he refused to do so, and he left the room only to realize that his agency had fired him, apparently for his actions.
She Claims Her Boyfriend Has Faced A Similar Scenario
Lawrence shared a clip from the podcast episode on her Instagram page, which she captioned, “We’re into it!! New episode of brotherlylovepod out now!”
Elsewhere, he admitted the incident with the unnamed director was not the first time he had been “suggested for a big role,” adding that it had happened to many people he knew.
“A lot of my other male friends have gone through this with men and women in the industry, but there’s a double standard,” the actor said.
Regarding her statement, Lawrence was referring to Terry Crews, who was allegedly “groped” by a Hollywood agent. He said when Crews finally went public with the issue, most people didn’t take it seriously.
“Terry Crews came out and said it, and people laughed at him,” Matthew said.

In the comment section of the clip, fans also mentioned the names of other male stars who had faced cases of sexual harassment.
One fan said, “Agreed. See how Brenden Frasier was treated after he spoke out. I’ve never heard Terry’s story, but I’m not surprised by any of this. Hollywood is dark.”
Another fan noted, “Yet people like @cdogg22 Corey Feldman get mocked for talking for years. As eccentric as he is, he’s been saying it for years.”
Several other fans thanked the actor for sharing his story, despite how traumatic the incident was for him.
One fan commented, “We love you, Matt. Thanks for being overexposed on a difficult topic. You don’t deserve this. It really bothers me. You and your brothers deserve everything good in this world.”
A third person said, “We all appreciate your weakness.”
Matthew Lawrence Shares Why He Avoids Drugs
Although Lawrence has had some bad experiences with the film industry, she has also experienced the positive side.
In March 2022, she shared that she didn’t fall into the drug life that many celebrities indulge in because of advice from Williams, who starred with her in the 1993 film “Mrs. Doubt.”
“‘Never take drugs. Especially cocaine,’” Lawrence recalled of her conversations with Williams, who died by suicide in 2014, per People magazine.
He added that the actor was “serious” about the comments and used his life as a case study.
Lawrence went on to praise Williams, saying the late actor played a role in her landing the role of Chris Hillard — the son of Williams’ character — in “Mrs. Doubt.”
