Appearing Friday on ABC’s “Nightline,” Perry told host Sawyer about having to go to the hospital for emergency surgery days before she filmed the hit comedy series’ reunion special that put her in the spotlight.

Although the actress did not share details about what caused the need for the surgery, she revealed that the procedure was performed on her teeth.

“They did all kinds of things,” the 53-year-old recalled, adding that his teeth felt like they were “on fire” after the surgery was completed.

The pain, which is very difficult to bear, made him feel that the actor is uncertain about joining his colleagues for the filming of the special in 2021. “It sounds like my voice is not active,” he told the HOST of “Nightline”, per Us Weekly. “[But] I can’t help but show up. So, what I choose is to go and do the best I can.”

In retrospect, the actor shares the privilege that he feels a lot of pressure to make people laugh with his anecdotes.

“I feel like I’m going to die if they don’t laugh. It’s not healthy for sure, but sometimes I’ll say a line, and they won’t laugh, and I’ll sweat and have a seizure,” Perry admitted on the special, per We.

In her interview with Sawyer, the actress shared that her addiction became so critical that even her co-stars noticed. The producers of the show were not left behind either, as they had to “back up” him to look normal during the moments when he looked high.

Perry also shared that one of her co-stars, Anniston, confronted her one day on set, describing it as a scary moment for her. The actress later confirmed that he kept contacting her as she tried repeatedly to kick the habit of taking “55 Vicodin a day,” several other drugs, and “a full liter of vodka.”

Unsurprisingly, Perry’s addiction wreaked havoc on his body, causing him to suffer a “gastrointestinal perforation” that landed the actor in the ICU in 2018. In his upcoming memoir, Friends, Lovers, and Big Awful Thingswhich debuted on November 1, the actor shared the bittersweet details, citing that it was almost the end of the road for him.

“The doctor told my family that I had a 2 percent chance of living,” he said Many people in an exclusive interview earlier this month. “I was put on something called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and lungs. And that’s called Hail Mary. No one survived that.”

During that time, he ended up spending two weeks in a coma, including five months in the hospital. In addition, she used a colostomy bag for almost a year while she recovered.

The actor has now been sober for 18 months.
