Matthew Perry’s Ex Fiancée Recalls Rewatching ‘Friends’ With Late Actor

Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée Molly Hurwitz has finally spoken out following the news of the Hollywood icon’s death.

Two days after the “Friends” star died on Saturday, October 28, the former lover of the entertainer announced his death on his social media. The media personality reflected on the two’s time together — the good, the bad, and their shared love for the actor’s hit NBC sitcom.

Molly Hurwitz Says It’s ‘Magical’ Watching Matthew Perry Rediscover His Comedic Gift

In his latest Instagram update, “Mr. The ex-fiancé of the Sunshine” star shared an edited photo of the late actor’s silhouette over a festive snow-covered area. Alongside this beautiful photo is a lengthy caption describing Hurwitz’s admiration for her former lover and her experience with the TV personality.

“He would love the world to talk about how talented he is. And she’s really, really talented,” the social media influencer began her emotional message, noting that before the “Friends” reunion in 2021, she and Perry will rewatch the iconic series. In her words:

“’F—, I’m so good!!! … See what I did there???’ We rewind and study the scene. Our respect and appreciation for humor is something that connects us. Being with him as he rediscovers his brilliance is magical.”

Despite their sweet memories, Hurwitz insists that she knows the man behind the screen and not every moment with him is happy. “Although I love him more deeply than I can understand, he is complicated, and he causes pain like I will never know,” explained the media personality.

Despite the pain Perry caused Hurwitz, the ex-fiance of the “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” star said she appreciates everything that happened between the former couple. The influencer wrote: “No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I am so grateful for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”

Hurwitz also referenced the late entertainer’s struggle with addiction by giving a special shout-out to “Al-Anon,” a support group for those who love someone struggling with substance abuse. Writing her final goodbye to the man she once planned to walk down the aisle with, the literary manager concluded her message:

“Matty, I’m relieved that you’ve calmed down. Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama(…fiction).”

The social media personality’s tribute to the “Three to Tango” actress comes two years after the former couple split. In 2021, the two ended their engagement, with Perry confirming the split in a statement. “Sometimes things don’t work out, and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best,” the entertainer announced, per PEOPLE.

The heartbreaking news coincides with the premiere of the highly anticipated “Friends” reunion, which airs on HBO Max. A year before the NBC sitcom stars rekindled their beloved on-screen friendship, Perry popped the big question to Hurwitz in November 2020.

At the time, the “17 Again” actor said: “I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happen to be dating the greatest woman on earth right now.” The former couple began dating in 2018, shocking the world with their two-decade age gap.

Before joining the rest of the A-listers in The Great Beyond, Perry shocked many by admitting she no longer watches the beloved sitcom. While promoting his 2022 memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” the 54-year-old announced that he can’t stand seeing himself on the show because it brings up his dark past.

“[I] can’t watch the show because i’m so skinny. Because I can go drink, opiates, drink, cocaine. I can tell the difference season after season with my appearance,” explained the entertainer. “That’s why I don’t want to watch it because that’s what I see.”

Although the sitcom was the catalyst for the late actor, the comedy series remains one of the most iconic shows of all time. “Friends” premiered in 1994 with Perry starring alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer. The show aired 236 episodes over ten seasons, receiving various praise and recognition.

Like Hurwitz, the Hollywood veteran’s former co-star shared a touching tribute following the actor’s passing. In their joint statement, the entertainers expressed their grief over Perry’s death with the words: “We are all absolutely devastated by the loss of Matthew. We are more than just an acting couple. We are family.”

“There is much to say, but for now, we will take some time to grieve and process this unexpected loss,” their message continued. “In time, we will talk more, when we can. At this time, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
