Unfortunately for Mayim Bialik fans, the 47-year-old actress will not be hosting the second season of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” due to the ongoing writers’ strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike, as reported by Deadline. This isn’t the only time the “Blossom” child star stepped back from her hosting duties, as she previously decided not to host the final week of season 39 to stand in solidarity with the interesting writers.

The second season of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” will premiere on ABC at 8pm ET on Wednesday, September 27. It will be followed by the season premieres of “Celebrity Wheel” at 9 p.m. ET and “The 100,000 Pyramid” at 10 p.m. ET. All shows will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.

Mayim once told People magazine in 2021 that being the host of “Jeopardy!” is one of the most “iconic” things he’s ever done in his career. “I’ve said it’s really one of the most iconic things I think I’ll ever do in my career,” he said at the time. “It’s going to feel like Forrest Gump like I’ve been put on Jeopardy! set.”

“There are many responsibilities borne by the host,” he continued. “I think there’s also a lot of iconic pressure. When I saw some scripts, I thought, what about Alex [Trebek] say this? And that might not be what I expected, Alex Trebek, but in my mind, I’m Alex Trebek — that’s what I want.”

Late last month, many former contestants revealed that they had turned down their invitation to the annual Tournament of Champions to stand in solidarity with the interesting writer. Ray Lalonde, a player from Toronto who won nearly $400,000 from thirteen games last season, took to Reddit to say that, even if he had been invited to the tournament, he would not be crossing the picket line to compete.

“I am and will always be grateful for the experience I had at the show and the opportunity to participate in TOC was beyond a dream come true for me. That being said, I believe that the show’s writers are an important part of the show and they deserve to take their job action to get a fair contract for themselves and their fellow WGA members,” he wrote.

He went on to say, “As a supporter of the trade union movement, a son of a trade unionist, and a proud trade unionist myself I have informed the producers of the show that if the strike remains unresolved I will not cross the picket line to play in the championship.”

Other Tournament of Champions nominees, including Chris Pannullo, Hannah Wilson, Ben Chan, Troy Meyer, Ben Goldstein, Luigi de Guzman, and Suresh Krishnan, all agreed to stand in solidarity with the interesting writers and refuse to compete as well.

Shortly after their statement went viral, Sony Pictures Television told The Hollywood Reporter that it “never intended” to host the Tournament of Champions until after the writers’ strike was resolved.

“Danger! never intended to produce Tournament of Champions for a 39th season until the strike is resolved,” a spokesperson for the show said in a statement. “Furthermore, no contestants from season 39 have been contacted regarding their availability for any post-season tournament, including the TOC. Danger! The postseason represents the pinnacle of our competition, and it should feature our strongest players playing our toughest original material.”

“Danger! has a long history and great respect for the WGA and our writers. We are always careful to adhere to our WGA agreement and we will not show game material not created by WGA writers,” the statement continued. “However, just as we did, led by Alex Trebek, during the 2007-2008 strike, we will deliver the premiere episode again this fall to over 200 affiliate stations across the country. Our current plan is to follow the holding pattern, pushing season 39 post-season to produce original episodes featuring the best of our WGA written material.”

The statement concluded: “Everyone at Jeopardy! hopes the association and AMPTP can reach a just resolution quickly. Celebrity Jeopardy! will return on ABC this fall with original material written by WGA writers before the strike. Jeopardy! and Celebrity Jeopardy! are protected under the SAG-AFTRA Network Code, which is still in effect.”
