Melissa Barrera has spoken out following the news that she was fired from “Scream VII” for publicly posting about the Israel-Hamas war.
Barrera was reportedly dropped from the film project because of his social media posts in which he slammed Israel for treating Gaza “like a concentration camp.” However, the 33-year-old actress seems to be doubling down on her decision to support Palestine.

Following reports of his exit from the upcoming sequel to the slasher franchise, Barrera took to his Instagram Story to issue a statement. “First of all I condemn Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hatred and prejudice in any form against any group of people,” he said.

The “Club de Cuervos” actress continued, “As a Latina, a proud Maxicana, I feel a responsibility to have a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and so I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues that I care about. and to lend my voice to those in need.”
The message continued with the Mexican reaffirming his message that everyone “regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status” deserves the same freedom, dignity, and human rights.
“I believe a group of people not their leadership and no governing body should be above criticism,” he wrote. Barrera added that he always prays for an end to the violence and for a peaceful coexistence between the two sides.
Barrera concluded his statement, “I will continue to speak up for those who need it most and continue to support peace and security, human rights and freedom. Staying silent is not an option for me.”
Variety shared the news that Barrera has been dropped from “Scream VII” by Spyglass Media, the production company behind the franchise. The media company released a statement on their decision:
“Spyglass’s position is crystal clear: We do not tolerate antisemitism or hate speech of any kind, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortions or anything that blatantly crosses the line into hate speech. .”
Barrera is slated to star in the next “Scream” show after appearing in the fifth and sixth sequels over the past two years. Amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, the “Vida” actor has been vocal in his support for Palestine.

In one post, he wrote, “Gaza is now being treated like a concentration camp. Gathering everyone together, nowhere to go, no electricity no water… People don’t learn anything from our history. And just like our history, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS CONSTRUCTION CONSTRUCTION & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
In another post, he wrote, “It’s sad and disappointing to see so many people and most of the Western media try SO HARD to equate Palestinian liberation with supporting Hamas when they are NOT the same thing.”
In the midst of the “Scream VII” scandal director Christopher Landon weighed in on the studio’s firing: “This is my statement: It all sucks. Stop screaming. It wasn’t my decision to make.”
Barrera played a key role in the revival of the iconic “Scream” franchise, leaving an unforgettable impression with his performances in “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI,” as the main character Sam Carpenter. Jenna Ortega Not Returning For ‘Scream VII’
As fans are gearing up to miss Barrera on their screens, they won’t be seeing Jenna Ortega in the upcoming sequel either. Shortly after Barrera was fired, it was reported that he might not return for the seventh installment of the iconic franchise.

According to reports, Ortega’s departure has nothing to do with her on-screen sister’s departure as it was already a topic before the actor’s strike as Ortega was scheduled to film the second season of “Wednesday.”
According to Deadline, Ortega and Scream executives discussed his departure from the popular horror franchise before the recently concluded actors’ and writers’ union struck.
“Scream VII” is still in production, and Ortega is scheduled to be in Ireland by April 2024. The actress will be filming the second season of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” in which she plays the lead role, causing a conflict in the shooting schedule.
