The drama follows an auction house’s desire to sell fashion items allegedly owned by pop icon Michael Jackson.
According to reports, the late singer’s Estate insisted that the auction house failed to clarify that the “Thriller” jacket they wanted to sell as part of their upcoming auction was never worn by MJ in the song’s iconic music video.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Condemns Misleading ‘Thriller’ Jacket Advertising
MEGA
Jackson’s Estate attorney, Jonathan Steinsapir, emphatically stated, in a letter written to Gotta Have Rock and Roll [GHRR] on Tuesday, that there are only two genuine “Thriller” jackets worn in the 1982 short film.
Turns out, one of those jackets was auctioned for nearly $2 million over ten years ago.
The Jackson Estate expressed significant concern about GHRR listing the jacket at $100k, as it could potentially mislead the public into believing that a genuine “Thriller” jacket has depreciated in value.
This misinformation may affect the MJ brand and the value of other personal items associated with it.

While acknowledging GHRR’s efforts to clarify in the auction description that the jacket “was not worn during the ‘Thriller’ music video,” Steinsapir demanded that this fact be more prominent in the auction title.
Additionally, he asked GHRR to state clearly that there is no evidence to support that MJ ever wore this particular jacket for promotional purposes.
It seems that the auction house has complied with this request, because TMZ reported that following receipt of Steinsapir’s letter, the auction had modified its title to include the term “style.”
In short, the headline now reads “Michael Jackson 1983 Owned & Worn Thriller Style Jacket.” The updated description also states that “The jacket is similar to the jacket worn in the ‘Thriller’ video.”

This Michael Jackson Item Sold For Over $300k

Another item from Jackson’s collection that has made headlines lately is the black-and-white leather jacket the “Beat It” hitmaker wore while filming a “Pepsi Generation” commercial in 1984.
Although the ad marked Jackson’s debut in the advertising world, the jacket’s existence remained unknown until Wendell Thompson came up with it.
According to The Blast, Thompson claimed that her father, Jackson’s cosmetologist, received the jacket from Jackson himself in 1983, during a meeting with him in Orlando, shortly before the ad aired.

Thompson revealed that he was present at the grand opening of the Jackson suite at Disney World’s Hotel Royal Plaza. He went on to declare that he had kept the jacket safe for years and was ready to part with it in hopes of fetching a huge sum in the 2023 auction.
He hopes to use the proceeds of the auction to support his children and family in his will. The auction, hosted by London auction house Propstore, is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 10.
The “Pepsi Generation” jacket ended up selling for $306,000 that same day.

MJ’s Estate Settles Old Dispute Over Jackson’s Stolen Goods
MEGA
Shortly before the sale of the prestigious fashion outfit, The Blast revealed that a lawsuit initiated by Jackson’s Estate to reclaim the 13-time Grammy winner’s estate from Jeffré Phillips has been resolved through a settlement.
Given the challenges faced by Jackson’s Estate in retrieving items from Philips, it appears they reached a good resolution last October.
However, uncertainty remains over whether Phillips will return the items, as Jackson’s Estate asked the judge, or compensate the estate for their aggregate value, which totals $1 million.
Recall that the theft of Phillips’ property gained significant attention in 2022 when the Jackson Estate revealed that a man who was engaged to one of Jackson’s siblings had absconded with her belongings.
What Did Phillips Take Out Of The Jackson House?

According to the lawsuit, Phillips exploited her status as a fiance during a nine-day stay at Jackson’s Carolwood House.
The accused was allegedly present when the philanthropist died, and he is said to have taken advantage of the commotion to escape with personal and personal belongings from the residence.
It is alleged that Philips took Jackson’s iPhone along with those belonging to his young children.
He also reportedly confiscated the King of Pop’s California driver’s license, various items of clothing—including the pajamas Jackson was wearing in the hours before his death, and prescription bottles containing pills.

Many of the missing items were not noticed until 2021, when an individual contacted the Estate to inquire about the provenance of certain items from Jackson’s personal belongings that Phillips was attempting to sell at auction.
MJ’s Son Legally Meets His Grandmother
MEGA
Another legal drama faced the Jackson family when the late artist’s youngest son, Bigi ‘Blanket’ Jackson, filed a lawsuit against his grandmother, Katherine.
In legal papers filed last month, Bigi urged the court to prevent Katherine from using funds from her father’s estate to fund an appeal of the previous ruling.
The 22-year-old explained that he and his grandmother had already presented their arguments against the agreement proposed by the executors of Michael’s estate. Despite their efforts, the court ruled against them, closing the legal matter.
Unfortunately, Katherine chose to proceed with the appeal, a decision that Bigi emphasized in his filing was not in line with his intentions, especially if he expected his father’s estate to cover the costs.

He further opposed his grandmother’s appeal, insisting that it had no merit for the trustee and had a slim chance of success. Bigi added that he had no issue with Katherine’s decision to appeal as long as she covered the costs herself.
