A Michigan guard known on social media as “Boopac Shakur” has died after he opened fire when he confronted two teenagers over the weekend, police said.
Robert Wayne Lee, 40, who has thousands of followers on his social media accounts, was at Universal Coney Island in Pontiac, where he confronted two men sitting at a table in the diner about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Fox 2 Detroit reported, citing the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
He accused one of the teenagers of being a pedophile and punched him, police said.
“There were two people at the table, the one he was most focused on and talking to and getting heated with wasn’t the individual who shot him — it was the other person on the opposite side of the table,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard, according to the news outlet.
The 18-year-old suspect who was punched pulled out a knife, while another – a 17-year-old boy – shot Lee several times with a handgun, according to police.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries, officials said.
The teenager fled but was arrested Saturday afternoon by detectives from the sheriff’s office and gun violence task force agents from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Detroit News reported.
The suspect is believed to be a resident of Pontiac but has not been identified. Criminal charges against the couple are pending.

“I’m very proud of the work of our Pontiac substation team,” Bouchard said, according to the news outlet. “Within hours, they have arrested two individuals in connection with this murder.”
While “one man’s crusade has led to the arrests and criminal charges filed against several men, he has also mistakenly identified someone as a sexual predator who was not,” the sheriff said in a statement.
“While we certainly understand the desire to hold child predators accountable, many times the well-intentioned individuals involved in these matters are unaware of the standard of proof required for conviction and often underestimate the potential violence faced by suspected predators,” he said.

“They feel trapped and often lash out violently. When we have caught predators in such circumstances, they have crashed into police cars and exhibited other violent behavior in an attempt to escape,” added Bouchard.
At one point, Lee’s efforts resulted in a former police officer facing charges, a police spokesman told CNN.
Lee has 11,000 followers on his Facebook page, where he is known as “Boopac Shakur.”

A GoFundMe page for Lee described the courageous superintendent as a “beacon of light” and a “hometown hero.”
“Robert dedicated his life to protecting our innocent children from those with evil intentions. Through his brave efforts, he managed to expose 132 predators who tried to harm the youth of our community,” he said.
“Robert is not only a defender of the innocent; he is the beloved father of his daughter Ah,’vyana. As she navigates the uncharted waters of life without her heroic father, we want to honor Robert’s memory and support Ah’vyana through this challenging journey,” the fundraiser added.
Lee, who was involved with a group called Dad’s Against Predators, played a role in a sting operation that led to charges against a fired Oakland County deputy, Fox 2 Detroit reported.
