Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino has reflected on his drug-fueled past amid the release of his acclaimed memoir, “Reality Check: Fixing the Situation – How I Overcame Addiction, Loss and Prison.”
According to the “Jersey Shore” star, he spent half a million dollars on drugs and was also involved in smuggling activities at the height of his career. The act eventually led to him reaching a personal low point and doing whatever he could to become and stay sober in 2015.
Mike Sorrentino Confused By The Lengths He Went To Succeed With His Addiction
On the eve of his eighth anniversary of sobriety, Sorrentino opened up about spending large sums of money on drugs. During a recent interview, the reality television star explained that although she already had an addiction problem, the popularity of “Jersey Shore” increased her struggles with addiction.
However, the six-year success of the MTV reality show brought him so much money that he had no problem spending $500,000 to keep his drug habit alive. The “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” states:
“I was a young and wild, carefree kid, and once you give kids millions of dollars and Ferraris and Lambos and girls screaming my name and yes-men everywhere, it’s hard to turn it off .”

Continuing the conversation, the father-of-three added, “That’s been my problem for years — how do you turn off that excess? And I think it’s not just my problem. Most people in our world or in the celebrity world or in the entertainment world, they have trouble turning off the redundant buttons.”
Although he has the financial resources to obtain any drug of his choice, he has problems with “smuggling” them on the set of reality shows and even talk shows.
Finally, Sorrentino took extreme measures to “smuggle” these drugs, forced by a miscalculation of “appetite” and “addicted” to them. Remembering a particular incident, he stated to ET:
“The one in Italy is very, very risky because you travel across the country and I smuggled in a few hundred Roxys in shoes, in Altoids cases that I opened.”
He revealed his detailed efforts, claiming that he hid the drugs in shoes placed between 20 other pairs to “disguise” them. To further prevent airport security from checking every bag, he packed a lot of bags, knowing he would get tired after checking a few bags.
Looking back on his success, the “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant has no doubt that his ability to compete is “insane.” Finally, he couldn’t hide from his reality anymore. In his words:
“I got to a point in my life, I couldn’t hide it anymore. I got to the point where I needed to do something different, and the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Once I started to get sober, I completely changed everything and did everything differently.
In case you missed it, Sorrentino announced his plans to release a memoir in July. At the time, she had taken to Instagram to post an image of the book cover featuring a close-up of her face, which was split in two. In the caption, he wrote:
“I’m so proud and excited to announce my book is coming out this fall! I’ve been writing my autobiography for over a year now, and it’s finally finished and ready to share with the world. I wrote about trying heroin, losing the love of my life, finding myself broken and homeless, and how when everything seemed lost, I refused to give up.
‘Jersey Shore’ Star Is Dedicated To Helping Others Like Her
To help with his sobriety, Sorrentino has joined the Alcoholics Anonymous group, and he’s showing his appreciation for them in 2021. According to The Blast, he uploaded a photo of himself holding a copy of the book, the “Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous,” to Instagram, writing fluently in below it:
“For those of you who don’t know what this book is, it saves the lives of countless individuals every year. Most of you know that I struggle with pill addiction, but this program can relate to any addiction or substance you use. It is a friendship program and changes perspectives and perceptions.”
He added that after he “first came out of treatment,” he followed the recommendations he was given, including going to meetings every day, doing treatment for almost a year, and getting a sponsor.
After stating that the tip helped “put me on the road to recovery and helped get the guy standing in front of you for five years clean and sober,” Sorrentino, who is expecting a child, wrapped up:
“Now more than ever, because I’m about to bring a little man into this world, I want to help create a world where people aren’t ashamed to get the help they need.”
