It was noted that the discovery happened during a Caribbean sailing trip in the early 2000s when they came across boat shoes made from a foam-like material called Croslite.

Apparently, all three were impressed by the unique qualities of these shoes: light, shock-absorbing, easy to clean, comfortable, durable, slip-resistant, and even buoyant. Impressed, they acquired the rights to the Croslite technology and began creating what we now know as Crocs.
