Nico Porteous Parents: Chris (Mom), Andrew Porteous (Dad)

To bag the gold medal in the men’s Freeski halfpipe final at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, even after a crash! Nico Porteous has earned every right to hold his head high. But at the move, two people are more proud than the athlete – his parents, Chris and Andrew Porteous!

Who are they? Well, this article explores everything you need to know about Nico Porteous’ parents.

Who Are Nico Porteous’ Parents?

Nico Porteous’ parents Chris and Andrew Porteous are the reason why the athlete is enjoying the success he has today. Reportedly, Nico’s parents introduced him to skiing when he was only 4 years old. So when Nico discovered his interest in the sport, they allowed him to train at the best training center and even taught him at home while they were away for training and competitions.

“We know the rest of them are incredible competitors and can land runs that will beat that score,” Andrew (father) shared after watching his son freeski the halfpipe at the Olympics. But given the weather and with a bit of luck, Nico held onto the lead and took the win.

“Unbelievable. We are relieved, and very proud.” Chris (mother) added.

Apparently happy parents watched the final from the Wānaka fan zone with the families of several other Olympians.

But this is not the first time, Nico’s parents have seen him succeed. They were also present when Nico received his Red Bull helmet, as the youngest athlete in the Red Bull New Zealand portfolio, in 2016.

“Ever since I saw someone with the blue and silver icon on their helmet, I was like, I want to be that person. It’s a big thing,” Nico shared at the time.

Meet Nico Porteous Mom, Chris Porteous

If we had to choose, Nico Porteous’ mother, Chris Porteous, contributed more towards her son’s success. She travels the world with him and even teaches him at home when he is unable to attend class.

And like every mother, Chris has a nickname for Nico. It’s “Nipsy.”

But really, “Nipsy” comes from Chris’s grandfather who said that he often “doubts around and Nippon about things”.

Chris Porteous was reportedly born before 1975. So, he couldn’t have been younger than 47 when Nico won the gold medal.

His son, Nico was 20 years old at the time.

As previously mentioned, Chris travels the world with his children. So, mother actually did not have time to build her career. And the sacrifice is worth it.

Guess, we can label her job as “housewife.”

No wonder, Nico called him “OG.”

Andrew Porteous is believed to be the same age as his wife.

So, that makes him older than 47 in 2022.

Since his job required him to be stationed somewhere, he could not travel with his son. However, the man rarely misses his children’s competitions.
