Olivia Munn’s Son Malcolm Celebrates Lunar New Year With ‘Longevity Noodles’

Actress Olivia Munn, who is of Vietnamese heritage, marked the 2023 Lunar New Year, which is popular in many Asian cultures, on Sunday, January 22, with great enthusiasm.

The former TV host made sure to commemorate the season with none other than her one-year-old son Malcolm and a special traditional treat that she took the liberty of showing fans on social media.

Olivia Munn Shows Children Eating ‘Awet Muda’ Noodles In The Spirit Of The Lunar New Year

According to tradition, Munn and Malcolm celebrate the Lunar New Year with longevity noodles, signifying “long life,” given the holiday. The 42-year-old mom shared a video of the dish on her Instagram Story, garnished with some delicious vegetables and served in a deep white ceramic bowl.

“Rejuvenating Noodles for Lunar New Year,” she captioned the post, adding two emojis signifying the long-standing tradition. He also added a sticker to the clip, indicating “2023.”

Another Insta Story video shows her son trying to eat the noodles but also playing with them using his little finger and with such intense concentration. In the middle of the funny moment, Malcolm makes a funny noise causing his mother, who is behind the camera, to laugh.

Munn then asks him to “take a bite,” which he does in unison, and he compliments her, saying, “good job,” after which he goes back to fiddling with the beefy noodles.

“To a long life, my little boy,” Munn captioned the upload. The “Iron Man 2” actor seems to have a good reason to feed his baby boy traditional dishes as he tries to familiarize him with his Asian culture.

However, some fans did not approve of his approach, especially when he brought it to the Asian market for the first time. The Blast reports that she received her first “bad parenting” criticism after uploading an Instagram feed of herself and her family spending the day shopping for some household items.

In the video set for Meghan Trainor’s single, “Made You Look,” Munn, her baby daddy John Mulaney, and their son are seen having fun while at the cultural market. Looking typically chic, the movie star sported a long-sleeve red knit turtleneck sweater, which she teamed with blue flared jeans and black ankle boots.

Instead, Malcolm wore a gray starfish sweater and light-colored pants, while Mulaney wore a brown puffer jacket and blue jeans. Although the family looked very cute together, what caught the attention of critics was how well Munn took his son to the seafood department and showed him the different types of animals.

The gesture offended many, including vegetarians and like-minded people as they took to the comments section to slam the “Date Night” star. One critic said, “Asian market, where you can find a lot of dead animals and also [sic] see them suffer. What rubbish.”

A second troll deemed the post “offensive” and expressed displeasure at Munn teaching her son how to treat wildlife.

Another wrote a sarcastic remark, implying that the seafood department with “live seafood as an aquarium” has always been one of their “favorite places in Asian markets.”

A more hostile commenter wrote, “When you drag your baby & SO out in the middle of a pandemic just to take a thirst trap photo because you love the way your butt looks in a pair of jeans.”

In December, the 42-year-old revealed that he was having a hard time with Malcolm’s teething on his Instagram Story, admitting that he and his partner had been having sleepless nights.

In the posted clip, Mulaney reads children’s playbooks to their baby, who she carries on her lap in the middle of the night. He looked tired but focused on making sure the little boy felt better.

Meanwhile, Munn, who was the cameraman, captioned the brief update with the time, “12:14 AM,” after writing, “We were woken up by Malcolm screaming….”

In a second post featuring Mulaney and Malcolm enthralled by the playbook, the “Beyond the Break” star shared the reason behind them waking up at such an odd hour, writing, “He’s teething again.”
