Taylor Swift needs to make a plan.
After more than a decade of working hard to establish his identity as one of the biggest pop stars of all time, his legacy and the future of his art are suddenly being defined by someone else.

Four years ago today, Swift prepared to release one of the brightest albums of her career, “Lover,” which contained some of the happiest songs in her catalog.
Behind the scenes, however, he was cast by two prominent industry insiders in his camp: Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun.
The latter worked closely with some of the biggest music stars of the modern era, including Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.

The “You Need To Calm Down” singer usually used her Tumblr in the 2010s to connect with her beloved ‘Swifties’, and the loss of her master was no exception.
The event that would later shape the next phase of Swift’s career began with an open letter containing a screenshot of an Instagram post from Bieber; the black-and-white photo of Bieber’s forehead also contains a smaller photo of Bieber with Braun and the main player in Swift’s story, Kanye West.
The caption read “Taylor swift what up” Swift would circle Braun and explain: “This is Scooter Braun, bullied me on social media when I was at my lowest. He’s gonna own all the music I’ve ever made.”
He later explained that the photo was taken after the infamous phone call and controversial Snapchat video involving West and his then-wife, Kim Kardashian.

He would begin the letter with an explanation of the situation by writing, “For years I have asked, begged for the opportunity to have my work. Instead, I was given the opportunity to re-sign to Big Machine Records and ‘get’ one album back at a time, one for each new album I submitted.”
“I left because I knew as soon as I signed the contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thus selling me and my future. I had to make a painful choice to leave my past behind. The music I wrote on my bedroom floor and the videos I dreamed up and paid for with the money I earned played in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.”
In the next paragraph, Swift then revealed she was not warned of Braun’s intention to buy her music in advance; he had found out when the news broke publicly.
“I am aware of my master’s purchase of a Braun Scooter as announced to the world,” Swift explained. “All I can think about is the constant manipulative bullying I received at his hands over the years.”

“Now Scooter has deprived me of my life’s work, that I was not given the opportunity to buy,” he explained in the following paragraph. “Basically, my musical legacy is going to be in the hands of someone trying to unravel it…”
The “folklore” singer will continue to emphasize that Borchetta knows how she feels about Braun. She revealed that she would almost cry every time the two would discuss Braun.
“Thankfully I’m now signed to a label that believes I should own whatever I create,” Swift begins the final paragraph. “Thankfully, I put my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in negotiations. You deserve to own the art you produce.”
The “Fearless” singer would follow up with a post a few months later, explaining that the couple allegedly prevented her from performing any of her old material at the American Music Awards, where she was set to receive the Artist of the Decade award. Their reason for banning Swift boils down to timing; she is allegedly not allowed to record any of her old music until 2020. They also won’t allow any music to be used in “Miss. Americana”, a documentary about Swift released in January.
After Braun will sell Swift’s masters in a $300 million deal in November, the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer will announce her plans to completely re-record her first six albums!

In a statement shared on social media, Swift wrote, “I have recently started re-recording my old music and it has proven to be interesting and creatively fulfilling. I have a lot of surprises…” she teased with a ‘cool’ face emoji.
“Fearless (Taylor Version)” and “Red (Taylor Version)” are out now, and “Talk Now (Taylor Version)” will follow on July 7th!
