If you haven’t felt old yet, Sailor Moon originally started appearing in manga magazines Nakayoshi. The manga was published from 1991 to 1997, which means Sailor Moon is now over 30 years old! This manga tells the story of a schoolgirl named Usagi Tsukino who is lazy, a poor student, and loves to eat. However, all that changes (at least a little) when he meets a cat named Luna, who gives him a magical artifact that helps him transform into Sailor Moon.
Through her travels, she meets Sailor Guardians representing each planet (yes, Sailor Pluto still counts here!), and her long-lost love, Prince Endymion, who is reborn as Mamoru Chiba. Although Usagi and Mamoru don’t really like it at first, their love story begins to unfold as they remember their past lives in the Moon Kingdom.
Their romance faces obstacles from evil forces, sometimes even from their own daughter, Chibiusa, who returns to visit them from the future known as “Crystal Tokyo,” ruled by Neo Queen Serenity, who is really Usagi in the future (yes, really!).

The manga was developed into an anime series produced by Toei Animation and released in Japan from 1992 to 1997, along with three animated feature films, a TV special, and three short films based on the original anime. A live-action TV version of the show called “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” was released in 2003, but only aired for one season. In 2014, a second anime series, called “Sailor Moon Crystal,” was released for three seasons and followed the manga’s story more closely.
There are also companion books, novels, stage musicals, video games, board games, and even theme park attractions dedicated to the beloved franchise.
