Meghan Trainor has reflected on her birth experience with her first child, Riley.
The singer gave birth to her now two-year-old son via cesarean section and revealed the terrifying event during a recent conversation about dedicating a chapter in her new book, “Dear Future Mama,” to mental health. She shares her baby boy — and is pregnant with her second child — with her husband, Daryl Sabara.
Meghan Trainor’s Mental Health Inclusion In Her New Book Was Born Out Of Her Motherhood Dilemma
When Trainor joined “Today with Hoda & Jenna” to talk about her new book, she couldn’t help but point out why she had to include the “big” chapter. As it turns out, the “All About That Bass” hitmaker has spent much of her time in a “huge debate” about whether she wants to continue taking antidepressants while pregnant with Riley. As he told co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb in a clip posted to Twitter:
“It was a big debate, do I stay on my antidepressant or not? It’s very safe. I got approval from all my doctors, but my first OBGYN, this guy was like, ‘Oh, you can throw away the candy.’ I was, like, devastated.

The 29-year-old star’s feelings on the matter were exacerbated when several nurses hinted that Riley’s “sleepy” outings may have had something to do with the antidepressants she was on during her nine-month period. After explaining that she called her doctor to slam them for not pointing out the side effect, the “Don’t I Make It Look Easy” singer added:
“I just feel so embarrassed. I just had crazy surgery, and I’m on all these drugs, and I’m miserable, and pointed out to say ‘it’s your fault your child is sleeping.’”
The doctor who performed the surgery tried to calm Trainor’s nerves by assuring her that “C-sections are as bad as a trauma baby coming out. It happens constantly, it’s unpredictable, and you’re not doing anything wrong.”
However, that did little to ease the pressure as her son had difficulty breathing after his birth, causing him to spend several days in the neonatal intensive care unit. [NICU] before he was allowed to go home. The incident caused his mother to be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD] because she could not hold her baby in her arms after the procedure.
The Grammy Award winner was still on the operating table getting stitches while her husband rushed to take their new baby to the NICU. Bringing their baby home isn’t easy either, as Trainor’s life now includes flashbacks and C-section-related nightmares.

He has since contacted a therapist who helped him realize that “the chemical reaction in [her] brain” may be the source of his problems in learning to “open that and heal that wound.”

YouTube Music Award Winner’s Husband Remains Supportive During Her ‘Hairy’ Pregnancy
In the midst of experiencing a traumatic first pregnancy, the Billboard Music Award winner recently revealed that she enlisted her husband as a personal nanny to smooth out the journey. According to The Blast, the television personality recounted Sabara taking a razor to shave her legs – among other areas – in the days leading up to the surgery, stating:
“For the C-section, I don’t know why, but I was like, ‘I want a clear path. I don’t want anything in the way, so make sure it’s pretty down there;’ so they could see everything. And he did that for me.”
Now that the blue-eyed singer’s second pregnancy is nearing the finish line, she has revealed her plans to enlist the help of the “Spy Kids” star once again. In his words. “I told him yesterday, ‘I’m at that point where I can’t see, I can’t reach, I can’t bend.’ He would do anything for me.”
The lovebirds have been stunning since they made it social media official in October 2016, after their first date, which Sabara described as “love at first sight.” Within a year, they were engaged, walking down the aisle in 2018 on the “Dear Future Husband” singer’s 25th birthday.
