Rumer Willis shares the unique story behind her daughter’s name! The first-time mom welcomed adorable baby Louetta with singer Derek Richard Thomas in April 2023.
The entertainer rose to fame as the eldest daughter of Bruce Willis and his ex-wife Demi Moore. Like his famous parents, the Paducah native pursued a career in the movie business, making his debut as a child star.
At 35 years old, the TV personality has made a name for herself in the industry, and she is now focusing on her latest achievements as a mother. Commenting on her precious joy, the “Now and Then” actress revealed how fate plays an important role in her daughter’s identity.
Rumer Willis Claims She Knew Louetta Was The Perfect Name For Her Baby Despite Initial Concerns
Finding the right name for a child is a challenging task. However, the winner of “Dancing with the Stars” season 20 managed to improve this experiment thanks to his lover and a spiritual disturbance.

Recalling the memorable event to PEOPLE, the media personality admitted the couple never considered naming their daughter Louetta. But as fate would have it, a spelling mistake inspired the newborn’s unique name.
“We thought of Loretta’s name, and it was a typo. Her dad and I were texting, and she left the ‘R’ out of Loretta, and it was just Louetta,” the Broadway star explained.
Instead of correcting her lover, the “Chicago” actress went with the flow because she believed a higher power was at play. The stage performer said: “I was like, ‘Oh, I love that!’ I think it was one of those divine intervention universe moments, and we found out actually quite early in my pregnancy.”
Despite feeling like fate had orchestrated her daughter’s name, the 35-year-old admitted she couldn’t help but worry about her decision. Willis said she was worried about the nickname not fitting her baby’s appearance.
“What’s scary is, I love this name, but oh man, is it going to be her name? Is it the right name? What if she comes out and doesn’t look like this?” The Paducah native recalled his hardships.
Despite her fears, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star doesn’t claim any name other than “Lou” is appropriate even though she has welcomed a boy. The Young Hollywood Award winner said:
“I fell in love with the name, from the very beginning, I was worried it wouldn’t work. But then she came out, and I mean, for me, at least now, I’m going to name her Lou, whether she’s a boy or a girl.”

In addition, the name “Louetta” offers the first granddaughter of the Willis clan a wide range of options for future nicknames. The TV personality said she and Thomas like the moniker because of its “flexibility.”
“I wanted to find something that has a lot of versatility. If she doesn’t feel like Louetta, she can go with Lou; she can go with Etta. She can change it for the rest of her life. Whatever she wants,” the proud mother of one raving about his daughter’s choice.
Teen Choice Award Nominee Forced to Rupture Amniotic Sac During Childbirth
Louetta’s conception has filled the entertainer’s life with some unforgettable experiences. In addition to divine intervention playing a role in the newborn’s name, the little girl was greeted by a home delivery that saw Willis break open her water bag.
While appearing on the “Informed Pregnancy” podcast in June, the new mom opened up about the “crazy” life-changing moment. Narrating the ordeal, the 35-year-old woman stated that she gave birth with an intact amniotic sac.
Despite being ready to give birth to her daughter, the “Empire” actress noted her “water bag is bulging but still not showing.” Since this was not an ideal situation, the midwife overseeing the birth concluded it was safe to intervene and allowed Willis to rupture her amniotic sac.

Under the guidance of a doula, the TV personality “achieved [her] finger up and can feel this little bag … like a water balloon but with a tougher skin.” During her next contraction, the performer managed to expel the bag of water, much to her surprise.
“There’s a picture of me, and I just have a shocked and surprised face because it’s a different sensation when the bag of water pushes your cervix when the baby’s head,” explained the Paducah beauty, adding that her labor went smoothly after this.
