Actor Russell Crowe has spoken about the upcoming sequel to his blockbuster movie “Gladiator.”
Crowe plays Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in the epic historical film and has admitted to being “a little jealous” of the upcoming sequel.
The “Robbin Hood” star revealed that he will not be involved in the film, but also expressed his support for Paul Mescal, who has been cast in the lead role.

Russell Crowe Expresses His Feelings About ‘Gladiator 2’

Crowe, 59, expressed his bitterness over the upcoming release of Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2” in a recent interview with Violator. The film is the follow-up to the highly successful 2000 film which won Crowe an Oscar for Best Actor.
In an interview with the news outlet, Crowe was asked about the next installment of the film and what he would like to see in it.
“I don’t know where they’re going with it,” he said. “I’m sure of it [there have] has happened [Scott’s] mind for the past 24 years that he thought he could probably do better or something. I think that’s one of the positive things about it, that it’s Ridley because he’s going to want to go back into that world and create something [on] the same level of viewing as the first.”

He continued, “I mean, look, the only thing I felt about it was jealousy, you know? Because I was a much younger man, it was a huge experience in my life. It was something that changed my life.”
Crowe stated that the film changed the way people looked at him and what he did for a living. He added, “…I have been fortunate to be involved in many big films, but the legs on the film are extraordinary. This is it; it’s 2023, and we made the movie in 1999.
“I guarantee you, somewhere around the world tonight, ‘Gladiator’ will be on prime time TV. And you don’t always get that kind of longevity with every film you make, so it holds a special place in my heart,” concluded the actor.

While appearing on “The Ryan Turbidy Show,” Crowe revealed that he was not part of the set working on “Gladiator 2.” Paul Mescal of “Orang Biasa” fame will star in the film, which is slated for release in late November 2024.
Per DiversitySince Crowe’s character, Maximus, died at the end of the original film, Mescal, 27, will play Lucius, the son of Maximus’ lover, Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen), in the sequel.
Crowe has stated that he is not starring in the sequel and shared that he wishes Mescal the best of luck.
“I think that’s where they took that story from, young Lucius, stepping into the role of the Emperor. I think that’s a brilliant idea in the world of the movie we’re creating,” he said.
