Sarah Matthews is one of the key figures in the ongoing investigation of the January 6 committee. However, the media has never heard of their role in the White House. Sarah worked as a former White House press secretary. He was among the group offering behind-the-scenes evidence.
The panel gradually removed each of them at each public hearing, and that list also included Cassidy Hutchinson. Working as a press aide, she resigned after the January 6 attacks in protest of Trump’s actions.
Before resigning, Sarah released a statement that read, “I am honored to serve in the Trump administration and proud of the policies we have implemented. As someone who works in the halls of Congress, I am deeply disturbed by what I saw today. I will be stepping down from my role, effective immediately. Our country needs a peaceful transition of power”.
Sarah testified behind closed doors with the select committee in February. He told the committee that Trump’s tweet attacking Vice President Mike Pene on January 6 was like “pouring petrol on a fire”.
During the interview with The Washington Post, Sarah explained that she was “visibly shaken” by Trump not speaking out against the protesters. When the former president told them, “we love you,” and that they were “very special,” Sarah said she was “disturbed.” As for why he resigned, he shared that it was “very personal,” going on to say that he “can’t walk into a building the next day and act like everything is fine because it’s untenable”.
On the One Year Anniversary on January 6, Sarah tweeted, “Make no mistake, the events of the 6th were an attempted coup, a term we would use if it happened in any other country, and former President Trump failed to live up to it. ”. He later added, “While it may be easier to ignore or obscure the events of that day for political gain – if we are to be morally consistent – we need to acknowledge these hard truths.”
Sarah was hired by Kayleigh McEnany whom she met while working for Trump’s re-election campaign. When Kayleigh took over as White House press secretary, she hired Sarah in June 2020.
“In this role, I serve as a spokesperson for President Trump and spend many of my days working with the White House press corps,” the North Canton native told the Kent State Piece. “I also developed the messaging strategy, prepared Kayleigh for briefings, and the president’s staff for interviews”.
Cassidy, a former Meadows aide who testified before the select panel in public, was also backed by Sarah. He tweeted three times about Hutchinson, praising him for coming forward, challenging critics to testify, and outlining Hutchinson’s responsibility.
One of Sarah’s tweets read, “Anyone downplaying Cassidy Hutchinson’s role or her access to the West Wing either doesn’t understand how the Trump WH works or is trying to discredit her because they fear how bad this testimony will be”.
