“Only Murders in The Building” is getting a new cast, Selena Gomez has revealed!
The mystery comedy-drama television series has captivated audiences since it first aired in August 2021, receiving numerous accolades, including a 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 17 Emmy nominations. It looks like the show is gearing up for even more attention with the addition of its newest screen star, OG actress Meryl Streep.

As Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short prepare to investigate the death of Ben Glenroy — played by Paul Rudd — in its latest season, fans are eager to find out what role Streep will play.
Gomez has teased viewers with news of the Academy Award winner’s official acceptance into the third season in a clip that aired a few hours ago. The “Calm Down” hitmaker began by pointing the camera at Martin and Short and informing viewers that they were on set for the upcoming season.
He then pointed the camera at Andrea Martin saying, “the gang is back. Yayyy,” before asking, “Could this get any better?” and turning to Rudd, who replied: “Well, I think it could be a little bit better.”
When Gomez pondered “why?” the three-time Oscar winner appeared from behind, offering to help her new co-stars with small tasks like getting coffee for Short. “JUST A LEGEND IN THE BUILDING,” one viewer exclaimed while another said, “meryl streep in the new season? I will sit down.”
A third fan commented, “NOT MERLYL CURAM EXPLODING??? truly the most iconic actor!” and the fourth son, “Paul Rudd?? does he have a crush on me? I already love the show…now I have to watch!!!”

Fans of the show have been reeling since Town & Country reiterated that the show had been renewed for a follow-up season earlier this month. However, before Hulu officially announced it, Gomez accidentally let it slip during a June 2022 interview when she discussed balancing her acting and music careers. In his words:
“I finished the second season, I did a cooking show, and now I’m going to be in the studio until the third season. So basically we’re just going to work on new music. Like I said, I can’t do one or the other. I actually like both.”
He had also posted a video online as the true crime podcaster’s crew wrapped up the second season, toasting “for a great second season,” which Short echoed, prompting Martin to reply, “for a great third season … well … next year! ”
Gomez has since revealed how much she loves and loves playing the character, Mabel – who she realizes she shares “similar traits”, according to The Blast. The “Ice Cream” singer added that she sees Martin and Short as her “crazy uncles,” thanks to the former’s knack for poking fun at herself and drawing attention from the crowd.
So far, the team has solved two murders that took place in their apartment building located on New York’s Upper West Side. They have also received several award nominations, winning a few.

The Blast caught up with Gomez’s openness about her crime-solving techniques for “Just Murder in the Building” during an interview with Seth Meyers. To that end, the actor recalled when he attended CrimeCon, with his mother, Mandy Teefey, in September 2021.
During the crime scene, the mother and daughter pair try to solve a cold case with the help of other amateur detectives and the authorities. Unfortunately, that’s when Gomez learns that her on-screen skills aren’t transferable and accepts that her mom is better than her.
At this point, the “Barney & Friends” alum told fans that if they have a case to solve, they should avoid bringing it to him. Despite this, the 30-year-old was happy to be a part of the event, which he described as an “awesome” experience. Meanwhile, CrimeCon confirmed that Gomez and Teefey attended the event with an Instagram upload with the caption:
“We are honored to host @selenagomez and her mother @mandyteefey at CrowdSolve this weekend. They were the perfect detectives who, along with hundreds of others, helped bring peace to the Sova family.”
