American actress Selma Blair has opened up about the chaotic point in her life where she attempted suicide while living with the effects of multiple sclerosis without knowing it.
The actress shared that she tries to cover up her health complications and self-medicates to ease the pain, also stating that she uses alcohol to deal with the constant headaches she gets.
Blair previously revealed that she tried to kill herself in college after her then-boyfriend broke up with her but decided against it at the last minute.

The “Brown’s Requiem” actor, 50, spoke candidly about his health complications in an interview with British Vogue Magazinewhere he revealed he lived with multiple sclerosis for years before it was diagnosed.
Blair, who lost the use of his right eye, left leg and bladder when he was seven, told the publication that some of the symptoms of the disease appeared in the early stages but went untreated.
He explained that his constant need for help sometimes triggered his mother, causing him to be labeled an “attention seeker.”
“If you’re a guy with those symptoms, you’re going to get an MRI. If you’re a girl, you’re called ‘crazy,’” she told the publication.
Blair’s undiagnosed multiple sclerosis caused damage to her frontal lobes—the equivalent of a brain injury. She quipped, “I look like a ‘normal’ girl to them, but I’ve been deformed this whole time.”

The “Anger Management” alum lives with excruciating pain and suicidal thoughts because it took 40 years for her MS to be discovered, according to British Vogue.
Blair shared that she lived with the disease for years, often having to mask her symptoms while working on set and medicating herself to ease the pain.
“As an adult, lethargy and anxiety become scary. I made a mistake. I wish myself dead. I tried to kill myself several times. Out of desperation,” he shared.
“The sets are sometimes exhausting with fatigue and exhaustion. I take Benzos and Klonopin,” added the “Hellboy” actor, referring to drugs that prevent seizures and anxiety disorders.
Blair shared that she was “sad” and “lost” during those difficult times and tried her best to cover it up, explaining that she was afraid of being “found out”, according to British Vogue.
“I remember being very, very bad on ‘Hellboy’ and being diagnosed with cat-scratch fever and possible leukemia in Prague,” he recounts. “I can’t tell anyone. I cannot admit alcoholism or seek treatment on my insurance, fearing I will be considered an insurance risk. I was devastated when I got back to LA.”

During a recent interview with SELF MagazineBlair revealed that her MS caused her severe pain throughout high school and that she resorted to alcohol as a form of “self-medication” to deal with the pain.
The “In Good Company” actor recalled a particular incident when he first drank alcohol until he passed out and said, “It took the pain away like nothing else until the next day.”
Her alcoholism worsened over time, leaving her vulnerable to predators who took advantage of her and raped her when she was too drunk to fight them.
“I have been raped many times because I was too drunk to say the words ‘Please stop,'” she continued Daily Mail.

At one point in her life, Blair considered taking her own life after breaking up with her boyfriend in college.
The actress opened up about her relationship with her physical education horse trainer, Todd, where she stated that she did not know how to deal with the breakup and tried to end her life.
He reportedly sneaked into his room and took a bottle of Tylenol and tequila but chose to fight it out at the last minute when he nearly passed out.

The painful days of not realizing she was suffering from MS are behind Blair, as her disease is now in remission, and she has stopped losing her abilities, according to Every day Mail.
The actress-turned-advocate was so vocal about her message for inclusion that she had to write her memoir, Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Upan attempt to deal with the label he has been branded with.
Blair, who underwent a stem cell transplant in 2019 to treat MS, told ELLE he is now committed to living his best life. He is also aware of the impact of his visibility and influence on raising awareness for the disabled community.
“I didn’t think I could make a difference by showing myself and being open about my experiences. But when other people with mobility aids gathered around my presence on the red carpet with crutches and amid the MS flare, I noticed. I feel empowered to share… Now it’s a conscious choice to,” she said.
