Learning to Crawl: Inside the Musical Evolution of Riley Keough And Sam Claflin
MEGA
There seems to be a lot of anticipation regarding the music part of the series. After all, Daisy and her crew should be hailed as one of the biggest and most influential bands of the seventies, and “Aurora” is known as one of the most defining albums of the decade. No pressure, right?
Two of the show’s best-known actors, Riley Keough and Sam Claflin, spent hours in rehearsals, trying to understand the professional and personal dynamics of Daisy and Billy. Both stars admittedly need a lot of practice to become seasoned musicians.
Claflin revealed to NME that laughter was key to the duo’s survival in training.
“We just laughed our way through it,” he told the publication according to our report. “We had singing lessons together quite early on, and at that point, I had impostor syndrome. I thought ‘I shouldn’t be here, this is scary. I’m so nervous,’ then Riley walks in and they immediately have us staring at each other to try and find that romantic connection, Claflin said.
The current of excitement also translates to Claflin’s singing partner; Keough admits he finds solace in both of their lack of musical skills!
“It didn’t take much for me to turn around laughing, but then we sang and I thought, ‘Oh yay, we’re both bad!’
Tony Berg, who was involved with the production of the “Aurora” LP, had some initial reservations when filming began.
As she told Variety, “Our initial concern when Sam and Riley were cast was that it would be a lot of pressure on two people who had never sung professionally to be responsible for singing 25 songs. I mean, that was scary, wasn’t it? The first sound they ever made for me and Blake [Mills, co-producer and insturmentalist]we looked at each other as if to say ‘Uh oh,’ because it’s not something they do.”
Neither joins the suggested steps to aid their vocal stylings; Claflin revealed there had been discussions to hire a “stunt vocalist” for him and Keough.
“I remember having that conversation,” Claflin told Variety. “Like, ‘we’ll get someone else and maybe have a stunt vocalist,’ that’s what they said. “I was like, what does that mean? That was the kick in the a** that I needed.”
Keough echoed, “I was like, “F**k that!”
After the hiring of a trainer and a production delay inspired by COVID-19, the full picture of Daisy Jones and Six is starting to take shape. Along with Suki Waterhouse, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse and Sebastian Chacon, the actors went to work on an “intense three-month band camp” where they were taught all the musical skills needed to become the reliable Daisy Jones and Six stature.
After the production shutdown called for the band to start rehearsing virtually, the extra time also helped flesh out Jenkins Reid’s vision.
“Honestly, one of the best things that ever happened to the production was the fact that we had a delay,” Claflin said.
TJR Got a Lot of Questions!
The author finally got to see his vision translated to the screen, and he showcased his lively thought process in an Instagram post!
“People will love it, won’t they?” Jenkins Reid asks his followers at the start of the clip. He also took the time to reassure himself and talk to his pug about the audience’s favorite aspect of the show.
“THEY LOVE IT,” Reese Witherspoon assured her friend in the comments.
Will it be love? The first three episodes of “Daisy Jones & The Six” are now available on Prime Video!
