A teenage car passenger who filmed himself encouraging his friend to kill a retired police officer who was riding his bicycle through Las Vegas was arrested Tuesday, officials announced.
The unidentified minor and the teenage driver – who is already in custody – both face manslaughter charges in the hit-and-run death of 64-year-old Andreas Probst last month, Las Vegas officials said at a news conference.
“It was a complete lack of conscience on his part and the worst part about it in the video is you hear that it was all intentional,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Detective Lt. Jason Johansen.
Police said the passenger recorded a heartbreaking video showing Probst being deliberately beaten and left for dead as he rode his morning bike around 6 a.m. on Aug. 14.
The driver was heard asking his laughing friend, “Ready?” as he sped right behind the retired cop.
“Yeah, kick his ass,” the passenger told the driver before the car plowed into the pensioner.
Probst was thrown into the windshield, sending shards of glass through the car, and onto the car before crashing to the side of the road.

“Damn that na got knocked out!” said the passenger as the driver stepped on the gas.
The killing was the worst of several crimes the couple allegedly committed that morning, authorities said.
The pair allegedly beat a 72-year-old man around 5:30 that morning, causing him to suffer non-life-threatening injuries.
They are also accused of deliberately crashing into a second car traveling nearby before turning their sights on Probst.

Police said the teenager stole at least four cars to carry out the violent act.
The 17-year-old who plowed into Probst was arrested the same day as Probst’s death on suspicion of hit-and-run.
Authorities announced upgraded homicide charges after video of the incident surfaced. Prosecutors said the two teenagers will be tried as adults.
It took five weeks for police to track down the passenger, who was wearing a mask in surveillance footage obtained by investigators.
He was eventually arrested in part because of the damning video, which police were alerted to by a school resource officer who had been given the footage by a student.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Watson — a self-confessed cycling addict — promised he would personally work on the prosecution case against the two teenagers.
“When I saw this video, it touched me in such a way. A way that other cyclists can appreciate,” he said.
Probst’s family said Tuesday that they believe the senseless killing was due to the effect of “social media on our youth” — not because of his 35 years in law enforcement.

The former cop had moved to Sin City after he retired as police chief in Bell, California, in 2009.
“Andy’s life was robbed by two individuals who did not believe that other people’s lives mattered,” said his daughter Taylor, calling her father “a man of honor and integrity.”
“He was a Little League father, an honorary member of the Girl Scouts … and he was always there for the various activities that we did as a family. His co-workers remember him as the real Pee-wee Herman. He was a joker, a comedian and always had a way of making you laugh.”
