A Texas mother found her teenage daughter’s lifeless body inside their home after the girl didn’t show up to a Christmas parade, and police are investigating the case as a homicide.
Lizbeth Medina, 16, was found unresponsive in the apartment she shared with her mother, Jacqueline, in Edna, Texas, on Dec. 5, after she hadn’t shown up to a Christmas parade earlier that evening.
Emergency personnel were called to the apartment at 6:57 p.m. but pronounced Lizbeth, an Edna High School cheerleader, dead at the scene.
When she didn’t see her daughter with her entire cheerleading squad at the parade, Jacqueline Medina knew something was wrong and immediately rushed home.
“As soon as I found him, I realized he was gone,” the distraught mother told KAVU-TV’s “Crossroads Today.” “Words cannot explain what I felt when I found my daughter in what she was. All I can say is that I hope with all my heart that there is justice for my daughter.”

The gruesome discovery made the mother believe she had been killed by someone.
“No string drugs, nothing like that. My daughter was found in a way no mother should find their child,” said Medina. “Someone hurt my child, someone took my child from me.”
Medina believes her daughter’s death is linked to a recent break-in that occurred at their Cottonwood Apartments unit a few weeks ago.

“He was just in his own house, and they broke in, and unfortunately he was home at the time,” he told the outlet.
Investigators have not released any information about what the crime scene looked like or if there were any signs of a struggle.

The mother-daughter duo has only lived in the small Texas town 100 miles southwest of Houston for about a year, KHOU reported.
The Edna Police Department provided an update on its investigation late Thursday, saying it is working “diligently” with the Texas Rangers “to locate and bring to justice the individuals responsible.”

The police department is asking the public to remain vigilant as the suspect is still at large, but will not provide too many updates in an effort to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
“We ask that you join us in continuing to lift this family up in prayer,” Edna Police Chief Rick Boone said in a statement.
Lizbeth Medina’s aunt set up a GoFundMe asking “the community for help to not only get Justice for my sweet Lizbeth” but also to provide support to the family.
