Actress Bella Ramsey will stick around for a second season!

The first season of “The Last Of Us” captures the events of the 2013 video game with some deviations made from the story fans have come to expect. While season 2 will begin adapting the events of 2020’s “The Last Of Us Part II,” actors Mazin and Druckmann confirmed that there will be some small and drastic changes made from the video game to the story.
Despite the changes, Bella Ramsey will stay with the show. The contestants were quick to point out that while Ellie was 14 in the first video game and 19 in the second video game, Ramsey is 19 in real life, which means that he will be older when they start filming season 2.

Ahead of the season finale, the two showrunners sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about fan reaction to the casting process. “One of the things about the difficult casting process is that we invite people to join us in this process, and we know everything and nobody else knows anything except what they know, which is the game,” explained Mazin. “We know what we’re going to do in terms of costume and makeup and hair, but more importantly, we also know the spirit and soul of the actor.”
Mazin recalled hearing fans “complain” that Ramsey was 17 when she was first cast as 14-year-old Ellie. “I think there is still this constant rhythm of anxiety. All I can say to people is, I myself am very worried about doing a good job on this. Understandably, I am also very anxious,” he continued. “If you’re worried about something, I’m probably worried about it, which means we talk about it and think about it.”
‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 ‘Will Be Different’ Than Video Games

While fans may be “anxious” about how the video game story and the HBO adaptation will differ, Mazin confirmed that season 2 of “The Last Of Us” will be “just as different as this season is different.
“Sometimes it will be radically different, and sometimes it will be [barely] completely different. But it will be different and it will be its own thing,” he said. “It won’t be the same as the game. It’s going to be a show that Neil and I want to make. But we did it with Bella.”

Druckmann also said that they were “very lucky” when they cast Ramsey in the role. “When we make plays, I think we’re very lucky. It was like lightning in a bottle that we met Ashley Johnson and I can’t imagine that version of Ellie being anyone else,” he said of the actress who plays Ellie in the game. “And then somehow we got lightning in a bottle again with Bella.”
“The only way we would consider sending Bella back is if she says, ‘I don’t want to work with you anymore,'” he added. “And even then, we’re not sure we’re going to give it that. We might still force him to come back for season 2.”

Actress Ashley Johnson, who originated the role of Ellie, told Deadline that she had been “blown away” by watching Bella Ramsey’s interpretation of the character. “It was really nice to see him because he was so good,” Johnson said. “And I feel like there are so many scenes that have been elevated because of his ability and talent.”
“I’m blown away by what he’s done, and I’m so excited for him to have the space to make this character his own and put his own stamp on it, in addition to bringing to life a character he’s excited about. and tell the story he wants to tell in character,” he continued. “I’m sure there’s pressure for anyone to take on a character that people know, and I think he’s killed it.”

“It’s heartbreaking because I know that life doesn’t get any better for them, and she’s so beautiful to watch because even in these subtle moments there’s so much going on,” she added. “And I feel like there are so many moments and scenes where Ellie is able to stand up for herself or say things that don’t happen in the game that I think are good for me to watch.”
No release date for “The Last Of Us” season 2 has been announced yet.
