Tom Cruise To Film His Next Big Action Movie In Outer Space

“Mission Impossible” star Tom Cruise is on the verge of the most significant achievement in cinematic history. The actor previously released his blockbuster sequel to “Top Gun: Maverick” earlier this year and received rave reviews in addition to huge success at the box office.

In addition to his acting prowess on screen, Cruise is known for his ability to perform stunts in his films, especially those full of death-defying stunts like the “Mission Impossible” franchise.

The 60-year-old looks like he’s about to add another notch to his belt, according to recent reports. Cruise and Doug Liman are scheduled to film scenes from the upcoming movie in space, making the actor the first to do so.

Cruise is on his way to another historic milestone. According to reports, the 60-year-old is currently planning with Liman, the director of “The Bourne Identity,” for a film set in outer space. The project is reportedly not affiliated with the “Mission Impossible” franchise and first appeared on the table two years ago.

Film field has been moved from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cruise and Liman approached Universal Film Entertainment Group (UFEG) about the idea. According to the plan, the star of “Top Gun: Maverick” will board a rocket that will launch him to the International Space Station.

Donna Langely, Chair of UFEG, spoke to BBC news regarding the project. “I think Tom Cruise took us to outer space; he took the world to space,” said Langely. “That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom … riding a rocket to the Space Station and shooting.”

Langely went on to reveal that most of the film will “take place on earth, and then the character has to go up into space to save the day.” The chairman of UFEG is the first British woman to be in charge of a major film studio in America.

Langely said that he hopes the “Jack Reacher” actor will be the first civilian to achieve a “spacewalk outside the space station.” The idea was initially created through a Zoom call between Cruise and Langely in 2020. The UFEG chairman explained that the actor told him he had “this great project” and went on to explain what was involved.

Space movies are reportedly still in development; however, Langely revealed that the film industry is trying to return to the level it reached before the epidemic began. BBC news also explained that Cruise’s move into space is currently at an “aspirational” stage.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Space Shuttle Almanac revealed that it was preparing for Cruise and the director of “The Bourne Identity” to move into space to film parts of the movie.

The company announced via its official Twitter page, explaining that the two will launch in October 2021 as part of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Crew Dragon Axiom capsule.

September 2020 tweets read, “So it’s confirmed that @CommanderMLA is flying the @Axiom_Space @SpaceX #CrewDragon tourism mission with Directors @DougLiman & Tom Cruise. One seat still needs to be filled. It will be launched in October 2021.”

At the time, the film was still in its infancy and had neither a title nor a plot; however, it will mark the actor’s most significant achievement in his decade-long death-defying career.

Over the years, Cruise has been involved in some truly terrible stunts. On his 60th birthday, Christopher McQuarrie, the director of “Mission Impossible” released a photo of the actor doing one of his mind-boggling stunts.

Cruise is shown dangling from a red aerial biplane without any assistance. It was not revealed exactly where the photo came from; however, it was likely taken during the filming of the upcoming “Mission: Impossible” movie, “Dead Reckoning Part One,” which is slated for release in 2023.

In a separate incident in 2017, the 60-year-old suffered serious injuries on the set of “Mission Impossible 6”. The leaked clip shows Cruise making a terrifying leap onto a roof; however, the action went in the wrong direction.

The “Top Gun” actor is shown crashing into a building and hanging by his belt in the air until he can pull himself upright. Cruise finally drags himself to the roof and meets the rest of the crew. However, the horrific incident did not seem to weigh on the actor, and a few months later, Cruise returned to the London set to continue the action.
