Woman who gave emotional interviews about family’s ‘gory’ murders in 2015 now arrested in their deaths

A South Carolina woman who gave an emotional interview in 2015 about the murders of four members of her family – including her own mother – has now been arrested for a “gory” quadruple murder.

Amy Vilardi and her husband Rosmore “Ross” Vilardi were arrested Friday and charged with four counts each of murder in connection with a bloody Halloween slaying that authorities said “shocked the Anderson County community to its core.”

Amy, who at the time was living in the same house as the victim, but in a separate house, was the one who called 911 on Nov. 2, claiming to have come across a scene covered in blood.

Days later, he sat down with television station WYFF4 and described the moment he said he found the body of his loved one.

“When I went to knock on the back door, it was open so I walked in and it was dark and I just turned on the light and there it was. They’re just… they’re there,” said a visibly shaken Amy, with her husband sitting next to her.

“I don’t understand why it happened and I just thought it was a dream that I was going to wake up from,” he lamented. “Whoever did this, I don’t see how you can live with yourself.”

The Vilardis family is accused of killing Cathy Scott, 60; Mike Scott, 59; Barbara Scott, 80, and Violet Taylor, 82, at the victim’s home in Pendleton.

Cathy Scott is Amy’s mother, and Violet Taylor is her grandmother. Mike Scott is Cathy Scott’s husband and Barbara Scott’s son.

Each victim had been stabbed to death and then shot post-mortem at least once, law enforcement officials said.

“They were killed senselessly and brutally,” Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride said in a press conference announcing the couple’s arrest. “It was a bad scene. It was probably what some of our people said was one of the worst things they had ever seen.”

Cathy Scott, 60, Amy Vilardi’s mother, was murdered on Halloween 2015 in Pendleton, South Carolina. Mike Scott, 59, is Cathy Scott’s husband. Barbara Scott, 80, is Mike Scott’s mother. Violet Taylor, 82, is Amy Vilardi’s grandmother.

“It was horrible. It is bloody. And it was just a terrible scene to see,” he added.

In another interview at the time with news station 7News, Amy said her murdered relatives were “great people” who “didn’t deserve it.”

For several years, Vilardis has denied any connection to the murder.

All four victims were found stabbed and shot in their homes on November 2, 2015, two days after their murders.

Despite their protestations of innocence, the pair were named persons of interest in the killing in March, Fox Carolina reported.

“I think we knew this day was coming,” McBride told reporters Friday.

The sheriff declined to say what led investigators to finally lock up the Vilardis in their Columbia home after eight years.

“Some things need to be preserved for our day in court,” he said. “Whatever I say, as far as details, the other side can use against us.”

Vilardi, right, said in an interview that he was the one who found his loved one’s body and called 911.

Likewise, no motive is given for the mass slaughter.

Vilardis made an initial court appearance Saturday and was ordered held without bond. They will return to court on February 20, 2024.
