X Had A Big Disruption On Thursday
MEGA
Popular social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a global outage on Thursday morning. More than 75 thousand users in the US reported that they had problems using the platform at the height of the app’s disruption.
According to data from Downdetector, which tracks outages through status reports from users and other sources, the outage was global, affecting users in Britain, Canada, France and several other countries. It remains unclear what caused the outage, and communications with X and its support team have been fruitless.
According to user complaints and data, user X is unable to view posts or make any tweets during downtime. Normal users only receive “Welcome to X!” message, while X Pro users receive a message that reads, “Waiting for broadcast.”
X/Twitter Has Been Troubled Since Musk’s Acquisition
MEGA
X has faced endless problems since Musk acquired the company for $44 billion in 2022. Since then, there have been several layoffs, especially engineers and key staff responsible for maintaining the platform, fixing complaints and preventing service disruptions for users.
There has also been a lot of news and rumors about X since Musk’s acquisition. These include significant changes to the authentication process, API access, the reversal of bans for controversial figures and a major rebranding from “Twitter” to “X.”
Musk has now emphasized that he is changing the platform to one that emphasizes free speech for everyone. The businessman also changed his personal role in the company from CEO of Twitter/X to executive chairman and CTO.

Although X is back online for users around the world, thousands are still complaining about issues using the app. A tweet by PopCrave with the caption, “Twitter/X is back online after an hour-long outage,” received thousands of comments about the outage and how it affected various users.
One wrote, “We’re back but the app is still broken.” Another user commented, “As a professional X content creator this harassment has destroyed me, does anyone else feel the same?” Third person said“I literally cried & threw up because I thought my twitter was gone.”
“The app is still a bit broken, sometimes it says to try again when posting even though it’s already posted, it doesn’t show views either..” wrote a fourth.
EU Suspects X Illegal Content And Information Abuse
MEGA
Amid news of the hack, the European Union announced that it suspected X of violating rules related to its obligations to transparency, combating illegal content and misinformation. Digital commissioner Thierry Breton made a post on the platform outlining the company’s alleged breach.
X has responded with a statement that it is “cooperating with the regulatory process.”
It reads, “X is focused on creating a safe and inclusive environment for all users on our platform while protecting freedom of expression, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards this goal.”
Concerns about the lack of restrictions on content on X have worsened since Musk acquired the platform. This is reportedly because he fired many content moderators. The European Commission has previously warned that X has the biggest misinformation problem of any major social media platform.
