Christina Applegate SOUNDS OFF On Critics, Shares Snarky DM

Christina Applegate isn’t here for any haters, and she’s telling them so!

The “Dead To Me” star has been very transparent in sharing her struggles with Multiple Sclerosis following her diagnosis in 2021. Part of Applegate’s transparency seems to involve calling out her critics.

The “…Married With Children” alum has openly discussed how her sense of humor has helped her, but it was no laughing matter on her Twitter feed on Tuesday.

Applegate posted a screenshot of the DM and shared details about what happened after engaging with the critical commenter.

Applegate Focuses on Laughter Following Her MS DiagnosisChristina Applegate

The Blast has covered various elements of Applegate’s struggle following her MS diagnosis. According to one of our coverage, he discussed coping mechanisms with Kelly Clarkson during a December appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

“Are you a naturally optimistic person when you’re sick or when you’re fighting something, because I like humor and very dark humor. I don’t know how you deal with things,” Clarkson asked.

“Yeah, my humor shield does me all right,” Applegate replied. “Um, but of course on the inside you feel that, and I do it to deflect a little bit and make people less scared around me,” he added. “I want them to feel comfortable that we can laugh about it,” Applegate said, referring to using a cane to help her walk. “I have a song I wrote called, ‘Disaby dear, hurry down the chimney tonight. I can’t cause my wheelchair to not fit.”

Not Every Moment in Applegate’s Life With MS Brings Laughter

Sooooo I made the unfortunate decision to see some comments on articles from mag people about me and my kids at CCA. Of course I told him it wasn’t good. This is his answer. What’s wrong people? By the way, I laughed. pic.twitter.com/82De0yPi7o

Despite Applegate’s ability to rely on her sense of humor, she was candid with Clarkson as she discussed her feelings.

“Honestly, being diagnosed with MS last year and what has happened to my body, to my mind, to my spirit, to everything… of course I don’t want to be around anyone or talk about it. But, I had to go through work. I wasn’t forced to work,” he explained, “but I made sure we were done [Dead To Me].”

Applegate refuses to let naysayers negatively impact her spirit, and she proved it when she called out critics on Twitter by revealing their DMs.

“Soooo, I made the uncomfortable decision to see some comments on an article from people magazine about me and my kids at CCA,” she began her tweet. Applegate was referring to her recent public appearance at the Critics’ Choice Awards; her presence at the event marked her first public appearance since her diagnosis.

“Of course I told him it wasn’t nice,” Applegate tweeted, continuing, “This is his reply. What’s wrong people. By the way, I’m laughing,” he assured his followers.

The critic’s DM of two texts read, “Ms don’t make you look like that plastic surgeon does. And you are a fraud and not Chris tina Applegate,” their first message read.

“And a bad plastic surgeon at that,” added their second DM.

Many of Applegate’s followers rushed to his defense in the thread’s replies.

Comedian Skyler Stone answered, “Actually, now that you bring it up, there’s a lot wrong with people, and that’s why they say that to you. It has nothing to do with you. They may even talk to themselves [sic] because self-hatred in that person cannot be seen. You keep being mean*ss CA!”

“Trash people will be trash,” tweeted Alyssa Mastromonaco.

“I almost feel sorry for this person,” one of Applegate’s followers tweeted, “Having to publicly criticize someone on their looks when you’ve done nothing to them,” they tweeted before expressing their love for “Dead To Me.” The Netflix series, which also stars Linda Cardellini, recently wrapped after three seasons.

“You look amazing,” another follower wrote, “people don’t seem to understand chronic illness and how it affects us, I don’t have MS, but I do have lupus, POTS, and APS. I have been called out for my weight and looks many times. You just have to try and ignore them!”

“Luckily you’re actually perfect and beautiful and a warrior goddess,” tweeted another fan, along with a Sarah Paulson gif.

Applegate has also shared her experience shooting “Dead To Me” after her diagnosis.

“I tried as hard as I could through it, and it was really hard, and I slept for months. Then all of a sudden I had to come out again and be this person, you know, people have seen this person for almost 40 years, and I’m different now,” he said. “I don’t want to be a fish in a fish tank, but you know, I’ll do my best just to get through.” (per The Blast)
